CF Compact Flash hole ?

Hi Johnny,
Your CF module is "wearing out" from all of the writes. Several of us
(all of us?) are experiencing the same problem with MT DOM memories. I
have asked MT to figure out a way to do ALL routine writes to a second
(real) hard drive and only write parameters and the OS to the DOM, but
so far no response.
Has anyone else experienced this ?
I have a new routerboard with a 64mb CF card, newly installed on the tower
today, after 8hours of uptime I noticed that I had over 2 1/2 million sector
writes.... I turned off all logging, sector writes still hammering away. I
also noticed, that the free HDD space on the CF is also going down. At this
point, I am clueless. If anyone else out there knows what is causing this,
please let me know! Im not having any problems with actual memory, just
drive (cf space) going bye bye.
Thanks,
JohnnyO

Joe, Compact Flashes and DOM's cannot 'wear out', it is impossible.
Please send ***@mikrotik.com a few supout.rif files where you see the size smaller
than usual and we will look why it is DISPLAYING it like that.

Hi NR,
If you will please consult the DOM manufacturer and/or the manufacturer
of the FLASH device used in the DOM, you will find that ALL flash
memory devices have a wearout mechanism and the maximum number of writes
to the flash devices (from which your DOM module is made) have a
specification. Usually this is in the range of 100,000 to 1,000,000
writes to a memory cell/byte/block before errors occur. Please let me
know the name of the manufacturer of the memory chips in your DOM device
and I will be happy to obtain information from them on the wearout
parameters for the particular chips used in your DOM devices.

I have already sent images of the resources printout of three of the
DOMs in equipment I use to you. These showing the varying amounts of
failed DOM space. I plan to stop using DOMS unless it becomes possible
to eliminate ALL routine writes to the flash memory in the devices.

You can READ a flash memory chip as much as you want. It is the WRITEs
that wear them out.

If you use the latest version of routeros (2.8) then there are no
unnecessary writes to the disk to worry about.
