[MikroTik] HELP: System hangs after 2.8.10 upgrade !!

Hello all,

Few minutes ago I upgraded to 2.8.10 from 2.8.8
I made the upgrade from lan, via ftp, but the system wasn't coming up.

I had to go to the rooftop, to find out that it was not booting, after
this message:
Lilo 22.3.4 Loading system ............ (12 points)
And then stops...

I tried almost everything, but nothing..

Is there any tool to repair this ? CF was 3 months old, the same with
the licence.

Please help...

P.s. this system has a double intel ethernet card, 2 atheros and one
prism card.
It was working fine since I installed it, 3 months ago..

George,
Was your ftp client in binary mode when sending to the mikrotik box?

I have heard this will mess it up. But have no clue how to get out of
it other then formating.

I wasn't using Binary mode and almost made the transfer.... well I started

believe his comment was "You'll create a nice brick" if you're not in binary

After hearing this I just have to wonder why they haven't introduced
some basic form of CRC checking for update files? That would be an easy
way to stop simple mistakes like this from happening.

I totally agree, most vendors use some sort of checksum that verifies if the
file is correct and deletes the ones automatically that are incorrect.

Hi,

I am running versions 2.8beta7 up to 2.8.7. It seems with 2.8.7 they messed
up the torch utility window size. Is that fixed yet?

RouterOS do check file consistency before doing upgrading. By uploading
packages in ASCII mode, you can not make router stop working.

If you mount your CF and read what's on it, you'll see the packages are checked.
Anyay, just reinstall the software on your CF, use your backup file and the same key as before which should be listed in your account at mikrotik.com.

I didn't think the file would be readable if it was not transferred via
binary. I know I've transferred the files on occasion and had errors
logged....at least I thought I did.

Subject: [MikroTik] HELP: System hangs after 2.8.10 upgrade !!
Post by George A. Michalopoulos (AKA Lewis)
Hello all,
Few minutes ago I upgraded to 2.8.10 from 2.8.8
I made the upgrade from lan, via ftp, but the system wasn't coming up.
I had to go to the rooftop, to find out that it was not booting, after
Lilo 22.3.4 Loading system ............

It was in binary mode.
I use Cuteftp, I have saved logins/passwds for every router I
administrate..

This is not the problem... Something changed with the bootloader...

George,
Was your ftp client in binary mode when sending to the
mikrotik box?
I have heard this will mess it up. But have no clue how
to get out of it other then formating.
