[MikroTik] WET11 and hotspot

Is there any known issue in using a Linksys WET11 with MT hotspot? I cannot
make it work.... The client computer gets DHCP address, but cannot even ping
the gateway. Really weird... Disabling Hotspot, things work well. Any ideas?

HotSpot is a tricky beast, and even though there is a semi-automated
way to set it up in Winbox, it doesn't really do it quite right.

If you know the firewall rules and how they work then you are better off
setting up HotSpot on your own, than relying on the wizard to do it right.

Never had any issues with the Wizard. Works very well. Only thing it will
not do is setup your walled garden entry.

If you are using the DHCP pool method on the hotspot you need to set the
WET11 to clone the mac address of the users computer.

Oh wait. Are you using the WET11 as the HotSpot client?
Sorry, I read WAP11 and thought you were having trouble
with the server side.

I had a WET11, never could get the stupid thing to work.

I use WET11 bridges exclusively with Cisco APS/Bridges on my MT Hotspot
network and they work flawlessly. I have NOT tried them with the MT
radio implementations. I like the WET11s since they will automatically
track any automatic channel changes that the Cisco APs/Bridges may make
to try and avoid interference on a particular channel.

I have noticed that WET11 model 2 units do not work properly with Cisco
APs which have more than one SSID. The WET11 model 1 units do not have
this problem and LinkSys has promised a fix for this problem "soon". A
partial fix exists in the WET11 model 2 latest firmware update. I use
multiple SSIDs so I can provide visible station ID and yet allow users
to log in with a fixed SSID at all stations.

You may find the "how to set up a MT hotspot" writeup useful at:
http://gpsinformation.org/hotspot/netinstallmikrotiktechnet.html
Note that this is for an AP EXTERNAL to the MT box.

At the bottom of the webpage http://gpsinforamtion.net you can find
application info on other MT features and on using the Cisco APs/Bridges
with Cisco gear.
